From News Center (Text/Photo by Guan Laide, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering) The national on-site finals of the Embodied AI Track of the 9th China Vocational Education Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition were successfully held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, from June 11 to 13, 2026. Coached by Guan Laide and Yang Xianing, the team of Li Minghao, Yang Changjin and Chen Zhihong from LZPU’s School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering won the national second prize in the Quadruped Robot Road Recognition Competition.

The competition was guided by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and sponsored by the National Association of Vocational Education of China. It is China’s first national-level competition covering all stages of vocational education. The Embodied AI track of the competition attracted thousands of teachers and students from hundreds of vocational colleges across China’s 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. After multi-round selection organized by provincial vocational education associations, 164 teams advanced to the national finals to compete in five events, including remote control of robots on complex roads and quadruped robot road recognition.

The Quadruped Robot Road Recognition Competition mainly involves simulating practical application scenarios of quadruped robots such as material transportation and inspection under complex terrain conditions. Robots must rely on their vision systems to perceive the environment autonomously, identify road conditions and complete multiple designated tasks. The competition comprehensively assesses participants’ capabilities in programming, algorithm design, task planning and optimization, as well as their engineering practice proficiency in integrating visual algorithms with the motion control of quadruped robots.

During preparation and the competition, LZPU’s team tackled practical challenges such as strong light reflection, complex terrain and signal interference. They adopted AI technologies including deep learning to effectively boost the robot’s road environment recognition accuracy and operational stability. Through this real-world competition, students received systematic training in algorithm implementation, hardware debugging, teamwork and on-site responsiveness.

This award fully embodies LZPU’s progress in advancing the development model of “embodied AI + vocational education + industrial application”. Supported by the Embodied Intelligent Robot Technology Application Center, LZPU focuses on skill cultivation and innovation-driven development, and consistently strives to align teaching with industrial needs. Building on this achievement, LZPU will further uphold the educational philosophy of “Skills Empower Life, Innovation Illuminates the Future”, deepen the mechanism of “promoting teaching and learning through competitions”, and construct practical platforms for the integration of industry and education, thereby helping more students fulfill their dreams through technical practice and embrace a bright future through innovative exploration.
