From News Center (Text and Photo by Wang Xia, School of Arts) On April 14, 2025, the People's Government of Yufeng District, Liuzhou City officially issued the Notice on Announcing the (Supplementary) List of the 7th Batch of Representative Items of Yufeng District-level Intangible Cultural Heritage (YZF [2025] No. 9). The "Liuzhou Plant Dyeing Technique" submitted by Liuzhou Polytechnic University (LZPU) as a protection unit was successfully included, signifying a significant breakthrough for LZPU in the field of intangible cultural heritage protection and inheritance.

The "Liuzhou Plant Dyeing Technique" is a traditional dyeing craftsmanship that uses natural plants as raw materials. It is characterized by its environmental friendliness, health benefits, and high artistic value. This technique represents the culmination of wisdom derived from the long-term production practices of the laboring people in the Liuzhou region. The successful inclusion in the district-level intangible cultural heritage list not only affirms LZPU's efforts in protecting and innovating traditional skills but also establishes a solid foundation for further in-depth research into intangible cultural heritage and its dynamic inheritance.

As a protection unit of the item, LZPU will strictly adhere to the requirements of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Law of the People's Republic of China and relevant regulations of the autonomous region. It will enforce the principle of "protection as the priority, rescue as essential, rational utilization, and development through inheritance", and collaborate with various parties to drive the sustainable development of intangible cultural heritage skills. LZPU will cultivate skilled professionals by integrating the plant dyeing technique into major-specific courses, utilize practical training resources to enhance skill improvement and foster innovation in product design, and organize intangible cultural heritage experience activities and public welfare training to strengthen public participation, thereby achieving the dynamic inheritance and modern application of traditional crafts.

LZPU will take this successful application for the intangible cultural heritage item as an opportunity to further leverage the exemplary role of higher education institutions in cultural inheritance. It will delve deeply into local distinctive cultural resources and promote the in-depth integration of intangible cultural heritage skills with modern education and industrial development. By doing so, LZPU aims to contribute its strength to the promotion of China's excellent traditional culture and the enhancement of cultural confidence.
