On March 20, the Ethnic Culture Immersive Experience Day event themed by "Songs on March 3rd Celebrating Intangible Cultural Heritage" was held at LZPU's Ingenuity Academy. The event was hosted by LZPU and organized by the Liuzhou Yufeng District Culture, Sports, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, Liuzhou Yufeng Park Management Office, the Publicity Department of the CPC LZPU Committee, and the International Exchange Department (School of International Education).

Nearly one hundred people participated in this event, including Wu Zhaohui, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Department of LZPU, Li Ping, Member of the Leading Party Members' Group of Liuzhou Yufeng District Culture, Sports, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, Liao Jie, Deputy Director of Liuzhou Yufeng Park Management Office, Yufeng Gexu Folk Song Team, as well as representatives of international students and teachers and students. They sat together with the inheritors of Guangxi folk songs and wove the cultural tapestry of the Sanyuesan Festival in Guangxi through singing, dancing, and skilled handcrafts.

Intangible Cultural Heritage Classroom: The Millennium Code in Folk Songs

"The CPC Central Committee convenes the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and I use folk songs to convey that the Party will pave the way for the people to become rich and policies benefiting them will be introduced into all families... "At the scene, Lu Lianfang, a representative inheritor of Yufeng Gexu, an intangible cultural heritage at the autonomous region level, used original folk song melodies and integrated her own lyrics to sing local folk songs of Guangxi with a sweet voice. Nearly one hundred audiences were instantly immersed in the melody. In the folk song lecture, Lu Lianfang not only talked about the millennium evolution of folk songs from "Liao Ge" to "Liuzhou Folk Song", but also taught on-site folk song creation skills such as "four sentences and seven words" and "level and oblique tones matching".

It is reported that Lu Lianfang participated in the "Guangxi Best Singer" Competition in 2013 and won the title of "Guangxi Best Singer". In 2014, she was awarded the title of "Representative Inheritor of Liuzhou's Intangible Cultural Heritage Yufeng Gexu". In March 2024, her work brand "Inheritance of Zhuang Folk Songs from Generation to Generation", which carried forward and inherited characteristic intangible cultural heritage, was awarded the "Excellent Brand of Guangxi Caring for the Next Generation".

When Lu Lianfang improvised "The brightest star is the Big Dipper, the most beautiful place in the world is Liuzhou, Yufeng Gexu spreads all over the world, and people in the Sea of Songs and Flower City love to travel", the audience was deeply moved by Liuzhou folk songs. The students used their mobile phones to capture this moving moment. Zhi Long, an international student from Indonesia, remarked: "It turns out that the lyrics and melodies of folk songs can be created by yourself, which is very national."

Interactive Carnival: Hundreds of People Dancing to Spread the Flame

In the hall of Ingenuity Academy, melodious folk songs were flowing like clear springs. Folk singers from Yufeng Gexu wore colorful ethnic costumes and performed traditional Zhuang ballads in an impromptu antiphonal style. Young singers used their songs to tell stories about Liuzhou's landscape, while old artists used vibrato and modulation to convey ancient wisdom. The audience clapped their hands gently along with the rhythm, and mobile phone flashes converged into a sea of stars.

A concentric circle surrounded by hundreds of people slowly rotated with the drumbeat. Folk singers from Yufeng Gexu led everyone to dance the Duoye dance of Dong people, and shouts of "Yeluoye-" came one after another. Accompanied by the jubilant music, teachers and students from all over the world, different regions and cultural backgrounds, as well as folk singers, held hands and danced the Duoye dance together, immersing themselves in a sea of joy.

There were bursts of laughter coming from the bamboo pole jumping area, and the two bamboo poles opened and closed in an orderly manner under the joint efforts of the pole handlers. Students lined up to challenge the "plum blossom pole". Although their ankles were frequently clamped, they still enjoyed it. The traditional embroidered ball throwing activity on the spot ignited the enthusiasm of the audience. Young people of different skin colors competed in the air for their fitness posture, making the intangible cultural heritage truly "live" in the blood of youth.

Fingertip Craftsmanship: Cultural Inheritance in Embroidered Ball

In the handicraft session, the intangible cultural heritage teacher guided the students in assembling embroidered balls. The twelve petals of the balls symbolized the twelve months of the year, while the colors red, yellow, blue, green, and purple represented a bountiful harvest. The petals were stitched together in pairs to create hemispheres, which were then filled with cotton and joined together to form a complete sphere shaped like the Chinese character "品" (pin). Holding hand-made embroidered balls, the students took photos with the folk song performers.

"This event has enhanced our understanding of the Sanyuesan Festival in Guangxi. As college students in the new era, we have the responsibility to pass on this cultural treasure," said Lai Xuanying, a freshman from the Zhuang ethnic group in an interview with reporters after the event.

It is reported that the Ingenuity Academy hosts ethnic cultural experience events during the annual Sanyuesan Festival, with the aim of helping more people understand the folk songs and the cultural significance of the festival in Guangxi. In the future, Ingenuity Academy will continue to hold similar events that align with its cultural education philosophy, integrating regular traditional Chinese cultural activities such as folk song instruction, handicraft creation, and cultural interaction. These initiatives aim to deepen teachers and students' understanding and appreciation of national culture, enabling traditional culture to truly serve as a bridge both in fostering a strong sense of community among the Chinese people and in connecting world civilizations.
